Home Maintenance Tips for Spring

Even with the 40 degree temperatures and thunderstorms rolling through, its time to look towards spring weather! This winter your house went through several days of harsh winter storms, ice, and hail.  As the weather starts to warm up its a great time to make sure your house is in its best condition for the spring and summer months.  A few tips:

Interior
  • Replace your furnace filter - A dirty filter can increase your energy bill!
  • Clean the kitchen exhaust hood and air filter
  • Have a professional air conditioning contractor inspect and maintain your system as recommended by the manufacturer. Including: tightening/changing the belts, lubricating fans and motors, calibrating the thermostat, etc.
  • Check your water heater- If it is gas make sure there are no leaks, also check for rusting or leaking around the edges
  • Clean clothes dryer exhaust duct, damper, and space under the dryer
  • Inspect and clean dust from the covers of your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
Exterior
  • Check for damage to your roof - Checking for missing/cracked/broken shingles, pools of water
  • Repair all cracked, broken or uneven driveways and walks to help provide a level walking surface
  • Check the shutoff valve at each plumbing fixture to make sure they function
