Halloween Creatures Take Over Yard

From Allen- Star Local News:

Neighbors driving by tend to slow down when they reach Jace Horton’s yard. It’s hard not to. With creatures pouring out of the windows, hiding under trees, popping out of bushes and pushing up out of the ground, the fantasy land looks like a nightmare mashup.
Horton takes his sons, ages 4 and 6, to the Halloween store every year where they start with picking out a mask. The rest of the lifesize characters are constructed with a PVC pipe frame as a foundation. The guys work together over the next few days putting the head on and adding lights for the eyes. They put on appropriate clothing to match the creature’s persona and finish by adding some type of hands or gloves.

“We’ve added one or two every year,” Horton said. “Last year we did the mummy and the werewolf. We added Freddy and Jason two years ago.”

This week, the family was putting the final touches on a flying skeleton ghost that will go on top of the roof near a vampire that is perched perilously from a window above the front door. Glowing green lights draw attention to a giant spider underneath a cobwebbed tree.

“The fun part’s making them, because it gives my boys a project,” Horton said. “Both myself and both my boys will go outside every night and look at the ‘Halloween guys’ as they call them.”

All of them have been given names, from the mummy to the grave digger and the skeleton with chains. Even previous neighbors that have moved come back every year to see the latest addition to the Hortons' front yard inside the Lakes on Legacy community.

“My wife just wanted me to add that I’m not crazy or insane,” he said. “I don’t do anything with blood. I like to keep it kid-friendly. We want to keep them a little scary but nothing over the top.”

Purchasing Pre-Foreclosures

Pre foreclosures are known as properties that have reached the final stages before they get repossessed or taken back by the bank.  The owner is still in complete control of the property or home, although the bank or lender will repossess the home if the owner doesn’t attempt to rectify the situation.

The best thing about pre foreclosures is the prices that are associated with them.  In most cases, the owner has no choice but to sell the house, and therefore will consider all reasonable offers received.  This is an ideal time to purchase, especially if you are looking to save a lot of money.

Along with the great prices you can get with pre foreclosures, you’ll also have the luxury of dealing directly with the owner - no third parties involved.

When you compare foreclosed properties with pre foreclosed properties, you’ll find that there is less competition involved with pre foreclosures.  Pre foreclosed homes are a great purchase, as they will normally come at a very affordable price.

Collin County Residents Vote Against New Bridge

Opponents of a six-lane bridge over Lavon Lake celebrated Monday when the Collin County Commissioners Court voted to kill the $400 million project.

"I am absolutely thrilled," said Kay Nordby, who led the opposition.

She and about 30 other people spoke out against the bridge at the third public hearing on the project in the past year. They said the bridge, intended to ease east-west travel, would displace families and disrupt the serenity of the lake.

Commissioners voted 3-1 to remove the bridge over the lake's southern tip from the county's long-range plan.

"I think at some point the bridge is going to be needed," Hoagland said. "We are entrusted with looking out for the future of Collin County."

For the past year, commissioners have emphasized that the bridge probably wouldn't be built for at least a decade because funding wasn't available and traffic didn't justify it.

Several opponents said officials could reduce traffic congestion near Lavon Lake by widening U.S. Highway 380, which crosses the lake near its northern tip, and State Highway 78, which skirts its eastern shore. They said those improvements would be cheaper and more effective than building another bridge across the lake.

The proposed project consisted of two bridges. One would have started on the lake's west side in Lucas and connected to the peninsula in the center. A second bridge would have extended to the eastern shore near the town of Lavon. The combined length of the bridges would have been about eight miles.

Finding a Good Deal for Your Home

When it comes to real estate, it’s really hard to beat a cheap home.  Although you can find cheap homes, some will obviously be better than others.  Some are in great neighborhoods, giving you plenty to see and plenty to do all around you.  On the other hand, most towns that offer the cheapest homes normally have a bad situation when it comes to the job market.

Keep in mind that buying cheap homes doesn’t necessarily mean buying a run down place or buying your home in a bad part of town.  You can get a cheap home in a great neighborhood, if you weigh your options accordingly.  If you shop around and look at different areas, you can find yourself surprised at just how many homes are available at reasonable prices.

Before you decide to buy a home, you should always think things through and be sure to look around different areas and neighborhoods.  Even though there are many cheap homes out there, you can get just as good of a deal through negotiating.

Most cheap homes sell very quick, which is why you should always be on the lookout for one.  When you find a cheap home that fits your needs, you should act on it promptly.
